last day of work
it's been a whirlwind of a year
i only remember bits & pieces
of how my last sem in NUS went
which probably spoke volumes
of whether i should have tried for honours

i know i know
the glory of the word "honours"
attached to a degree
as small a firm in i'm
& however minuscule my work matters
you can't replace workin' experience
& pay demands
with an extra year in school
cynical but true

most people end each year
with a 'best of' or 'worst of'
i'm followin' the norm
so here's my:
'5 techno temptations i'm relieved i didn't give in to in '08

1. iphone
tempting
especially with my CPF rebate
which i blew on god knows what
will still get it someday i believe
waitin' for apple/singtel
to make it worth my while

2. that set of speakers
with the new house
it was definitely tempting to pimp my room
with a good set of set of speakers
for my friday night lights, how i met your mother, etc
i even contemplated $500 bose speakers
brought it down to $99 altec lansing ones
but workin' for my dollar
made me realise i didn't need them

3. that porn account
i'm coming out to say it
when you watch those brilliant videos
they give you 1-3 minute snippets
cuttin' out the good stuff
& askin' you to pay for the full shit
i get tempted for a second
& go on another search engine
there's just too much free porn
to justify payin' for any

4. PS i love you
xbox360 is awesome... wii rocks...
fuck that & that
SNES
sega
they're like puppy love
PS1 is that lover you never forget
i've opted to us the PC (which is failin' me)
for my winning 11 fix
because it's free & easy to patch
but i'll always have PS in my heart
that is something other consoles
can never replace
unfortunately we had to end our affair at 2
because PS3 is just that high class chick
we always look at but can't afford

5. nds lite
was a fad in my home
with my bro gettin' it for his gf
& sands all over it
was toyin' with gettin' one for her
but the extra set we got at home
is on the bench
for the position as a paperweight
nuff said

i'm sure there're other tech temptations
that slipped my mind
& through my grasp
anyhows
to all my holmes
have a good one this x'mas

money no good enough

i haven't seen every film made in 2008
but its safe to say
money no enough 2
is right up there with the worst

i'm no local/jack neo movie basher
money no enough
i not stupid
that one not enough
all hit the right notes
but money no enough 2
is appallin' (to be kind)
i couldn't bring myself to finish it
& duly dumped the DVD
it wasn't even worth keepin'

the nauseous endorsements for
mitsubishi
OCBC
mio TV
even regular TV ads
couldn't pimp those products more

the god awful plot
i'm not kiddin' myself when i say
i can come up with better
health supplement/mlm-like fiasco
en bloc fever
the ERP bit at the beginnin' was decent
but turned out to be the only bright spot
of a horrendous excuse for a movie

jack neo has come up short
on all fronts this time
his probable thought process:
"you know, people are complaining about ERP,
crazy about en bloc so let's put those in,
& recycle the health supplement story,
people will still watch it no matter what LAH"

after another 10 years
